Maturity Markers

Book of James

We must try to become mature and start thinking about more than just the basic things we were taught about Christ. We shouldn't need to keep talking about why we ought to turn from deeds that bring death and why we ought to have faith in God.” Hebrew 6:1

Do NOT ________________________________________________

Do ______________________________________________________

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patient, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Galatians 5:22,23

If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.   1 Corinthians 13:1-7

A Mature Christian:

1) Is _________________________________ under _____________________________

Dear brothers and sisters,[a] when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
James 1:2-4

2) __________________________ Your ___________________________________

Yes indeed, it is good when you obey the royal law as found in the Scriptures: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
James 2:8

3) Has ______________________________ over ____________________________

Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way. James 3:2

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

4) Is a ________________________________ NOT a ____________________________

What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you?
James 4:1

5) Is _________________________________ and _______________________________

Dear brothers and sisters,[a] be patient as you wait for the Lord’s return. Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring. They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen. You, too, must be patient. Take courage, for the coming of the Lord is near.
James 5:7,8
